'Let's hope Dr M isn't too desperate'

Mahathir may wish to be in the limelight again but he has to face the reality. It is a different world and he just has to accept the fact that he is no longer up there.'On Mahathir wants to be 'unofficial adviser' to gov'tSayu Sayme: Mahathir has been away for a while. Pak Lah and the son-in-law have had their influence. And Najib would have his own group of people by now.Mahathir may wish to be in the limelight again but he has to face the reality. It is a different world and he just has to accept the fact that he is no longer up there.Whatever Mahathir may wish to achieve, whether for himself or his loved ones, let's hope he is not too desperate.Stop doing things like tagging the Chinese as racist. It will have negative effects and it also make him lose the people's respect for him.Stephen Doss: What I would like to make clear is that Mahathir has become a liability to Umno and BN.I now once again plead with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to be wary of carrying baggage that will increasingly become heavier. This would be the case if he were to continue to seek advise or allow direct or indirect interference from someone who is clearly a liability.Just a few days ago, BN was confident of taking both Bukit Selambau and Bukit Gantang. What happened after this confident start? It made the mistake of allowing Mahathir to visit and campaign in these two constituencies. Why did the BN win handsomely in Batang Ai?
I cannot be sure except to say thank God, Mahathir did not campaign at Batang Ai. (The writer is president Persatuan Pemuda Negara Malaysia)Ben Ong: My advice to our new PM is to stay away from this so-called ‘potential advisor'. A new Malaysia needs new ideas and decisions. To me Malaysia's politics is always about power and corruption so please change it to responsibilities and quality services.Respect stays with rakyat and money stays in the bank. Also, criticism is progress, complacency is doom and arrogance is downfall.Jeffrey: Even a wayang kulit show has an ending. Now everyone knows that Najib is just a puppet. How can you be a prime minister if the former PM is the advisor?Mahathir is like Samy Vellu now. Is this the culture we want for the younger generation? A prime minister that has no power to navigate this country? He will always be spoon fed by this so-called advisor who only has few more years left to be our Bapa Kemodenan.
We just hope this wayang kulit will end soon.KSN: What happened to the pop star appeal Muhyuddin was talking about? Of course, I am referring toTDM's campaigning for Umno and BN.If this man has no clue that he is not wanted anywhere anymore, then what are Najib and Muhyuddin talking about?Keep him away if Najib knows what is good for him. But how is that possible when they must grateful for his contribution in sending Abdullah packing? And this man has the audacity to publicly say that he wants to be the unofficial advisor to the PM.Considering all that is in the public domain, Najib has more than enough of problems he can cope with. To add this ‘has been' even unofficially to the government is simply disaster. On Umno preventing Chinese from learning about IslamAnonymous: I was very angry when an Malay NGO filed a policed report against Nga for reciting a Quranic verse at one DAP by-election campaign.Badan Bertindak Perpaduan Melayu (BBPM) President Osman Abu Bakar totally rejects efforts by non-Muslims to understand and appreciate Islam.
My beloved Perak mufti has also got a wrong interpretation on this matter.Brother Osman and my respected Mufti of Perak, do you have any specific dalil syarak preventing non-Muslims from reciting a Quranic verse? My beloved mufti, is there any nas (text) that prevents Nga for reciting Quranic verses?Have both of you forgotten that Allah Himself has declared that Al Quran was revealed to all mankind? Many times in the Quran, Allah says ‘Ya Aiyuhallazi na Amanu' and also ‘Yaa Aiyuhan Nass'. So it is clear that the Quran what sent to all mankind, Muslims and non-Muslim alike. The Al-Quran is not the property of the Malays alone. In fact, it is not the property of Muslims themselves. It is a life guide for Muslims and a perpetual reminder to non-Muslims about the truth of Allah s.w.t and Muhammad s.a.w.
Therefore, non-Muslims are most welcome to learn about the Quran.Dear Mufti of Perak, I admit that I am your strong supporter except of your political inclination towards Umno.
Please stop giving comments on politics. It will just expose more your political inclinations.Dear BBPM, please stop what you are doing. You should fight for the Malay cause but let the non-Muslims learn whatever they want about Islam and let them learn to read and recite the Quran. It's okay for them to err and pelat while reciting the Holy verses. On Gov't to revive caning in schools A Very Disturbed Mother: I'm a mother of a seven-year old boy enrolled in a Chinese vernacular school. My boy was caned almost everyday in a week for some reason.First, he was caned for his poor handwriting, Next, for not bringing his book. Then caned for running from one spot to another.Yesterday, he was caned for not having his Ejaan book signed by me or my hubby. For goodness sake, he's just a kid and an obedient boy. Never causes trouble in school.A seven-year old boy that just left his kindergarten less than six months ago. It's not about his naughtiness for being caned but for some stupid reason.Firstly, the teacher should warn him. Put a note on his memo book. Not cane him unnecessarily. Are they abusing their power? Are they trying to put a phobia into children from going to school?Dennis Madden: Why in this necessary? Why is discipline such an issue in schools that violence is seen to be the only possible avenue to address the problem?Maybe it has something to do with the fact that teachers have no interest in their job and fail to be exciting and inspiring examples to their pupils.Maybe its because the facilities provided by the education department are more like public toilets rather than exciting, welcoming, encouraging places where learning is seen as a pleasure and not a task.Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the Malaysian education philosophy is in itself barbaric and outdated and is of no interest to the majority of students.Maybe it has something to do with the fact that parents have abandoned their responsibility of raising their children because they are told the state and religion can do a much better job.Maybe it has something to do with the fact that as a general rule, Malaysians of all races are almost devoid of any ethics and principles.
So how do you expect their children to be any better with such wonderful role models?Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Malaysians have very little common sense and imagination and can only resort to what was dealt out to them before as answers to discipline problems.Maybe its because Malaysians have no respect for the young people of this nation and all they want to do is repress and suppress them. What sense is there in punishing the children for the shortcomings of their elders? It has been shown over and over and over again that violence is not the answer to discipline problems. But of course Malaysians always know better. At least Pak Lah had the intelligence to see that.On Kugan's death: ministry's report suspiciousKen Low: Health DG Ismail Merican is fond of playing with words and twisting meanings although he does not do it in any intelligent way.Readers should note that this is the same Ismail Merican who insisted that ‘to rule of sodomy' in Dr Osman's medical report on Saiful of the infamous sodomy case against Anwar does not mean that sodomy did not take place although the meaning is clear to anybody who can understand English.
